SARA BERTUCcIOLI
Editor-in-chief of Mashable Italy
«As Mashable Italia we were born just a few months ago and this lockdown has impacted our lives, our work and obviously the content of the website. There are six of us on the Mashable Italia team and we have been working from home since 10th of March. Despite the difficulties related to the first few days, our working routine has improved».

PROS AND CONS OF REMOTE WORK

We were shocked by the lockdown and we had to learn to coordinate staff remotely with Slack and other apps and we had been organising meetings every morning on Zoom whereas before the quarantine we only held staff meetings once a week. At the beginning it was surprisingly therapeutic: we were not just talking shop it was also a space where we talked about our new personal routines or our thoughts and fears about the situation.

One of the biggest challenges at first was the overload of stories: we had an excessiveamount of stories to choose from and also a lot of fake news to debunk.
The traffic on our website has increased partly because our working routine improved and because Italy unfortunately was one of the most affected countries in the world so people were surfing the net looking for news. We chose to cover the emergency in Lombardia, the most affected region with stories from contributors who are stationed there.

We followed the trend and started live streaming on Instagram to discuss our articles with writers, experts or artists. We also started a new section on our website called «Quarantine tips»: tv shows/documentaries/ movies to watch, books to read, workouts on YouTube and more. We have been focusing mostly on the psychological aspectsof this lockdown while also covering the tech aspects in accordance with our mission.
