The XI Annual International Media-Forum of young journalists of Eurasia «Dialogue of Cultures» was held from 22nd to 23rd of November in Saint-Petersburg.
The Media-Forum «Dialogue of Cultures» from year to year is becoming more and more important platform for intercommunication between the representatives of Media from different countries. The Forum’s mediator is Mediacongress – the Journalists Community of Europe and Asia, which helps to join journalists efforts to set a cross-cultural dialog between countries, answer on the media challenges, creating own transboundary projects, adopting experience of colleagues from other countries and making new long-term acquaintances.
The location of the event – the State Hermitage museum – is chosen not by chance, as this is the place, in its halls, where the dialogue between different countries and nations has already being lead for 250 years. The Forum’s opening took place in the Hermitage theatre, where Alexander Govorunov, the Saint-Petersburg vice-governor, welcomed participants and guests of the Forum. Than Ashot Dzhazoyan, the Mediacongress president, in his welcome speech pointed that nowadays at the time of infowars such events are vitally important, because journalists need to be truly informed and honest.
The program of the Forum was very diverse and it was aimed not only at the representatives of registered in their country media, but also at independent journalists, photographers, filmmakers, bloggers, editors of Internet-portals or another analogue outlets. Every participant could express his opinion on the up-to-date changes in the media space, openly present his own professional achievements, as follows: an article in a newspaper or magazine, TV-spot, a documentary film or series of photographs.
In the frame of the Media-Forum there were:
- Practical conference in the Hermitage Theater;
- Photo exhibition of the participant's works titled «Here I Live» in the General Staff Building;
- Festival of documentaries with the same theme «Here I Live»
The Forum started on the 22nd of November with a practical conference in the Hermitage Theater, where young journalists heard what journalistic problems in the countries of their colleagues is faced with, and discussed the issue of overcoming conflicts between the representatives of different cultures and confessions in modern media. They tried to receive in an open discussion the answers that will help to eliminate the problems that exist and to outline the paths modern media is going to follow. It is important because there are young journalists, which have started the dialogue in the Hermitage’s halls, that will be forming a public opinion in the nearest future having become the leaders of the media space of Eurasia.
Every participant was able to present his own cross-border multimedia project. For the past 10 years of Forum’s existence there have been made thousands of articles, reports, photographs reflecting the life of the city and the State Hermitage. Dozens of short-films form the basis for the documentary film «Hermitage with Love». This film, which had a premiere in 2015, received high recognition abroad; and now it is planned to make a sequel of this film in the creation of which young journalists that will come to the XI «Dialogue of Cultures» could take part.
How to keep the world’s balance? On the 22rd of November the participants of the forum of young journalists «Dialogue of Cultures» on the first session «Diversity of cultures and the dialogue in the mediaspace in Eurasia» tried find the answer to the question.
Vladimir Kasyutin, the chief editor of “Journalism and Media Market” magazine and the Union of Journalists of Russia secretary in his welcome speech told how media in our country live, provided actual media examples and claimed it is important to cover small villages and towns local lives.
Zalina Hubetsova, the Candidate of Political Sciences, the Saint-Petersburg State University associate professor mentioned a journalist’s task to acquaint the audience with cultures of other countries. The prove of its necessity is a rising interest to the “MIR” channel, that tell about ex-USSR countries.
Raed Jabber the correspondent of Al-Hayat newspaper, the head of the League of Arab States Mission in Russia stated that there is a problem of covering the situation in Syria. The main purpose is to show how ordinary people live, their suffering and happiness and not to divide inhabitants to terrorists and refugees.
«Culture is the very thing that makes us different. And here is the one main commandment for the young journalist to remember: it is the dialogue that could help us to understand another culture, to understand that it is different, different from ours», – noticed Ashot Dzhazoyan, president of the Mediacongress «The commonwealth of journalists». He also proposed to create a terrorist acts investigation institute.
Maria Oleynik, a press-secretary from Severomorsk called for journalists to allot super tasks and remember, that everyone can and must change something.
Anna Shklyarova, the student of the High School of Journalism and Mass Communication of the Saint-Petersburg State University presented her project «Postwar dialogue of cultures in Bosnia and Herzegowina». As part of the project young journalists visited Sarajevo and conducted a series of interviews with people of different cultures of the country.
To the conclusion of the session Alexandra Shushlina, the Moscow State Pedagogical University student raised the question of employment of journalism departments graduate students and told us about her presentation.
As a part of the Forum the webinar with the Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova was held. Under discussion were The Syrian-Russian and Russian-Turkish relations, the US presidential elections and feminism in Russia.
Maria Zakharova stated that Russia support Syria and not only government provide humanitarian aid, but also non-governmental organizations. «Along with Ministry of Defense we aimed to put the end to bloodshed». Also Russia is tend up to restore relations with Turkey.
Regarding women rights in Russia, Maria Zakharova pointed that women in our country are impulsive and they have no boundaries to reach their goals.
At the end Maria Zakharova agreed to continue the tradition of annual meetings of young journalists with the Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The final day the guests enjoyed a sight-seeing tour.
